Senior Process Engineer - PVD Processing

NEXX Systems -- a dynamic and growing venture-backed manufacturer of semiconductor capital equipment -- is a team of dedicated innovators who continually challenge the performance of our equipment to meet the ever increasing demands of the advanced semiconductor packaging industry. Thinking outside-the-box, pushing-the-envelope—well, that’s just the beginning. If you are a creative, solutions driven person, NEXX Systems is the company for you.

Overall Accountability
This position will be as a member of the process engineering team for the Apollo wafer processing product manufactured by NEXX Systems. The Apollo is a newly released high performance PVD sputter tool for thin film deposition on semiconductor wafers. NEXX Systems is a rapidly growing semiconductor equipment manufacturer serving the semiconductor advanced packaging sector worldwide. Optimizing the Apollo system to meet customer processing requirements is a challenging and exciting opportunity for a process engineer with an interest in complex, interacting systems.

The Process Engineer will develop a sophisticated understanding of the parameters that influence sputter etch (pre-clean) and magnetron sputter deposition processes. With this understanding, the candidate will develop recipes and processes, perform customer demonstrations and acceptance testing of processing systems, train customers, and resolve customer processing issues. The Engineer should be capable of working with customers and R&D centers, such as IMEC, to develop advanced process technology, followed by presentation of papers at technical conferences and preparation of technical notes for customers. The candidate will perform these duties with a minimum of supervision. A successful candidate should enjoy working in the lab, interact well with colleagues and customers, and be willing to travel, particularly to Asia.

Required Experience

  • MS in applied physical sciences with 5+ years experience, PhD preferred.
  • Demonstrated expertise in PVD processing.
  • Electroplating experience a plus
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Knowledge and experience in the following areas will be considered valuable assets:
    • ICP sputter etch processing
    • Process metrology and thin film analytical techniques
    • RF systems
    • Vacuum systems
    • Semiconductor manufacturing
    • Travel in Europe and especially Asia
