PVD General Manager
NEXX Systems - a dynamic and growing venture-backed manufacturer of semiconductor capital equipment - is a team of dedicated innovators who continually challenge the performance of our equipment to meet the ever increasing demands of the advanced semiconductor packaging industry. Thinking outside the box, pushing the envelope-well, that's just the beginning. If you are a creative, solutions-driven person, NEXX Systems is the company for you.
Role
Responsible for the development and characterization of NEXX Systems' Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) tools. Provide product and project leadership for company's physicists and engineers for all phases of process and product design, research, development and support. Perform Reliability Testing and Failure analysis methods used by the semiconductor industry in testing integrated circuit (IC) packaging. Support customer engagements in the field for potential sales or in solving complex technical issues. Business management skills needed to develop a business plan and execute to revenue, gross margin, and market share targets.
Utilize the knowledge of concepts, practices, and procedures in physics to solve complex process and product challenges; plan and develop projects and products involving highly complex technical issues; provide technical leadership and drive all phases of design and development from physical concepts through detail design; perform sophisticated analysis; define product reliability testing methods and procedures; and contribute to patent filings. Provide customers with the expertise required to meet the demanding processing requirements in both the semiconductor and telecommunications industries and in other potential industries, like Solar, that may apply.
Responsiblities
Business Process, Sales Tool, Sales Collateral Development, and Engineering and New Product Responsibility
Develop and implement the following business processes and sales tools. Where appropriate, business processes, procedures, forms, etc. should be under Documentation Control.
- Product Configurator
- Sales tool to assist field sales representative in working with customer to define model, system configurations, options, etc.
- Define system configuration, options and customer expectations for Operations
- Form basis for a sales tool that will automatically generate system cost estimate
- Form basis for sales tool that will automatically generate a BOM
- Generic Product Specification: Complete generic technical product specification. Product specifications are critical as they define system and component tool technical performance. System Specification often is incorporated into purchase order (PO) and Final Acceptance Test (FAT).
- Contract Review Process: Institute and enforce a Contract Review Process to ensure all internal stakeholders review, provide input, accept, and fulfill customer order, specification, and contractual commitments. A Contract Review Process will also ensure clean order booking.
- Sales Order Kick-Off: Institute and facilitate sales order kick off meetings.
- Product Data Sheets
- Develop technical product data sheets as sales collateral.
- Develop MRS statements for any new product activities
- Assist with customer strategy development
- Identify new business/customer applications
- Product Positioning/Selection Guide
- Develop matrix of Model Name, Application, wafer size, throughput, footprint, and price for use as sales tool.
Business/Technical Responsibility
- Using data from the process group specify the process capabilities of Apollo for different applications, including statistics on wafer uniformity, die uniformity, feature morphology, etc. for various tool configurations. Formulate and summarize this information in a manner easily used by the sales force.
- Lead the development of application specific process BKMs and associated process space mappings that may be utilized by customers to quickly develop their product specific PVD recipe.
- Using process knowledge and equipment engineering understanding of the Nimbus/Apollo tools to configure systems in response to specific customer requests. Provide a suite of generic configurations, and associated productivity estimates, that sales may use on a routine basis for budgetary pricing.
- Coordinate with Operations and drive supplier base to verify that proposed tool configurations are consistent with costing model and gross margin assumptions. Verify that all elements of tool required for customer acceptance are included in specific configuration used by Operations to build each customer machine.
- Work with the customer to finalize the specification to be used for equipment sign-off, including the detailed description of system hardware as well as the final testing, including number of wafers, test pattern, test measurement, and appropriate statistics.
- Track all tool installations and acceptance to ensure timely completion (occasionally being the primary process engineer on the tool start-up.) Coordinate efforts of the Service and Process groups as necessary to finalize acceptance on schedule.
- Regularly visit customers, and prospective customers, both as technical adjunct to sales visits and more importantly as part of system installation and troubleshooting. Use these "in-fab" visits as means of gathering product satisfaction, continuous improvement and new feature roadmap information directly from fab engineers.
- Direct the hardware and process engineering activities to support CIP, customers requests and new feature/product development
- Lead new feature/product roll-out, for example improved etch capability or high aspect ratio TSV seed/barrier capability.
- Responsible for revenue, gross margin and market share goals.
- Drive BOM cost reduction program
- Responsible for driving system shipment and supplier quality improvement programs
Minimum Requirements
- MS in Physics, Chemistry, Electrical, Chemical, or Mechanical Engineering plus eight years of experience in the job to be performed in the semiconductor industry.
- Must also have in-depth knowledge of the Physics of Materials in PVD; knowledge of characterization of a wide variety of materials deposited as thin films on substrates used by the Semiconductor and Telecommunications industries; and knowledge of Reliability Testing and Failure Analysis methods.
- Superior project and product management and customer engagement skills
- Job Location: Billerica, MA.
